Even if you already have had Mike in to perform a security review of your
system
It is frighteningly common for an e-mail to arrive in my in-box saying,
"Mike, those were great recommendations for us to improve our network by
installing a firewall device, and I know it has been 12 months since you
suggested it, and we are thinking of turning on the firewall soon now. We really
are going to this time!"
Too many IT professionals are so sure the network is vulnerable, and so sure
the network needs to be protected right away, that they are going to protect the
network "first thing tomorrow" after they finish finishing the tasks they "have
to do" today first. Then of course when "tomorrow" rolls around, there are new
emergencies on the front burner, and the network security once again gets pushed
back to "first thing tomorrow." This is a risky choice.
CEO's and other executives: check with your IT professionals / consultant and
review the list of recommendations to be sure they've implemented at least the
"most urgent" items. If there are any problems with the implementation of the
recommendations then please one of you call or send me an e-mail today.
IT Experts: If you are running into snags in applying security to your
network, let's find a way around them. If the problem is caused by having a
tight budget, there are often ways around even that problem too.
The ultimate mission is "protect the computers" of the world against attacks.
