Print your stamps and addresses at home in a quick-and-easy step
If you are like me, if you had a nickel for every minute you spent in line at
the post office... (sometimes just waiting for a place to park). Thank goodness
this is all unnecessary now thanks to www.stamps.com
I signed up a couple of years ago and love the service. Instead of going to
the post office, I just "cut and paste" the address into the www.stamps.com program and a peel-and-stick label comes right
out of the printer with 3 things: The mailing label complete with the bar-code
for routing, a return-address label with my photo on it, and a stamp! Just put
those 3 stickers on your package and throw it in a mailbox. Done!
The local post office was happy to provide me with a roll of "Express Mail"
and "Priority Mail" stickers to stick on appropriate packages.
So that I can print "one label at a time," I use the DymoŽ LabelWriter 330
Electronic Labeler that you can buy from www.stamps.com. It is a great little printer and it plugs into
any USB port. Expect to invest about $169 for the printer, though I did see it
for $149 at www.froogle.com
today.
I purposely opened the lid and "broke off" the little "paper feed" switch on
the front because sometimes I would accidentally "feed the paper" when tearing
off a label (wasting a label). After I broke the switch off, the printer doesn't
"feed paper" when I'm tearing off the label. Chances are you can be more careful
than me when you tear off the labels and won't choose to break off the
switch.
I choose to use these labels: DymoŽ LabelWriter 30383 Fluorescent Internet
Postage Labels, 3-Part, For All Mailings that are also available through www.stamps.com. These are some of the more expensive labels,
but for 12 cents each - that is sure less expensive than the time I used to
spend waiting in line at the post office!
The only minor "hitch" is when a package weighs more than 1 pound. Those
packages have to be hand delivered to the post office for security reasons.
Still, it is easy and avoids the wait in line since the post office just wants
me to make eye-contact with an agent behind the counter before dropping off the
package without waiting in line.
