Many organizations reward IT professionals for solving IT problems. That is not only ineffective, it is counterproductive. Become aware of what you are incentivizing IT to do.
From now on, when an IT professional solves a problem, instead of saying “Good job for fixing that” ask “what could you have done to prevent this?” That will refocus IT on what is most important—preventing problems before they even happen. This involves strategy, not just tactics.
